Miles Macadam recently entered into Phase 2 of the Carbon Neutral Scheme in alliance with Shropshire Council, WSP and Kier. One of the locations in this phase was the B4385 in Bishop’s Castle. The area covered was 2436m² of single carriageway B-road with 14mm Milepave™ 60PSV alongside an additional 34m² of AC20 HDM Binder. A total of 15 team members (including the Contract Manager and Site Foreman) were involved in the works and the duration of this activity took 8 days to complete. Traffic Management employed a full road closure with gatemen posted to allow access for residents, and to ensure as little disruption as possible. Sites so far have generated 323 tonnes of carbon through the use of our reduced carbon product, Milepave™, compared to an additional 129 tonnes had a conventional material been used. Any additional carbon will be completely offset, ensuring a net zero status for this scheme. Based on schemes delivered until end March ’21 and projected schemes, the programme will absorb or offset 650 tonnes of carbon.
