Miles Macadam has released a new video showcasing the success of their latest resurfacing scheme, developed in collaboration with Wiltshire Council and Atkins. For the past decade, Wiltshire Council has specified Milepave™ to support its sustainability goals. This innovative material reduces carbon emissions by 40% and is produced at lower mixing temperatures, requiring less energy and bitumen content. The recent trial on Ladyfield Road utilised Biopave, an enhanced version of Milepave™, incorporating Biochar to further improve sustainability by capturing and storing carbon within the road surface. This project successfully tackled the challenges of Wiltshire’s concrete carriageways, delivering a durable, net zero road surface. A key aspect of the scheme is its use of SteelPhalt’s Welsh-produced steel slag in the receiving course, eliminating the need for virgin aggregates and further lowering the project’s carbon footprint. Milepave’s grouted system also mitigates reflective cracking from underlying concrete bays through advanced jointing treatments, offering greater flexibility and minimising cracking. This innovation optimises road longevity, reduces maintenance needs, and supports Wiltshire Council’s ongoing commitment to carbon reduction and sustainability.
